“Course I do. Don’t you?”
Without another word, James spun around and hopped up onto
the train, sliding open a compartment door to stow away his trunk.
It was almost annoying, hearing the mistrust in Lily’s voice. Granted,
he’d never really done anything to prove to her that he deserved the
position, but that didn’t mean he was useless.Besides, Dumbledore trusted him, and he wasn’t about to gamble
away that judgement.“Might be best if you take the lead, I’ve never been to one of these
meetings.”
Her eyebrows furrowed. She didn’t want to trust him. Lily thought she
never could but how dysfunctional would they be if they didn’t even trust
each other? Something wasn’t the same and it bothered her. As she boarded
the train, she couldn’t help but think that Dumbledore knew what he was doing.
But hadn’t she made it obvious how much she didn’t live Potter? Perhaps it
was a lesson. Teaching her to work cohesively with someone she didn’t like.
No, Dumbledore wouldn’t put someone nearly incompetent in charge
because he wanted to teach a lesson a student. Or would he? She wasn’t
so sure anymore. Maybe he really did have confidence in James.
❝ You were never a prefect, Potter? ❞
